Word Mix-Up: STAKE and STEAK

STAKE: A "stake" is a pointed stick or pole. It later came to refer to the post or pole where people were tied to be "burned at the stake." Stakes could be used to mark land boundaries, hence the phrase "to stake a claim."

STEAK: A "steak" is a thick slice of meat.
